The position carries broad responsibilities, including representing IPR and being accountable for business and investment attraction efforts within selected target sectors. This involves coordinating and executing IPR’s economic development strategy, networking, developing and nurturing relationships at global, national, and local levels, responding to inquiries, assisting prospects, and leveraging stakeholders to advocate for Puerto Rico and amplify our initiatives.
Primary Functions and Responsibilities:
- Collaborates closely with the Business Development team to create and implement a strategy aimed at attracting businesses within key sectors that align with IPR’s economic development goals. This strategy includes promoting investment opportunities in various areas such as infrastructure, logistics, and clean technologies, among others.
- Engages in follow-up and outreach to leads generated at events and through various promotional channels (e.g., website, lead generation contracts, AI tools, personal networks, advertising, etc.).
- Develops, updates, maintains, and markets essential business development materials and key informational resources for potential businesses and investors.
- Plans and participates in sales missions, trade shows, and conferences to generate leads and prospects, actively managing pre-trip outreach efforts, scheduling appointments and meetings, and conducting follow-up activities post-trip.
- Handle prospect management from initial contact to official establishment on the island, including presentations to executives, coordination of visits and tours, development of compelling business cases, all while ensuring the effective coordination with public and private sector partners.
- Stay abreast of current news and market trends specifically within key sectors to identify strategies to attract new business and/or partnership opportunities.
- Develop links and networks to cultivate relationships with business multipliers that includes site selection consultants, real estate brokers and other key service providers.
- Work on Requests for Information (RFIs) and presentation for clients and collaboratively works with other departments to craft “Why Puerto Rico” pitches.
- Ensure the customer relationship management (CRM) system is maintained up-to-date and that all relevant customer-related data is entered in the system.
- Represents Invest PR at local industry events via speaking and/or networking engagements.
- Responsible for meeting individual and team KPI annual targets.
- Any other responsibilities the Business Development Lead or executive team determines are appropriate to fulfill IPR’s mission and mandate in the region.
Professional Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance or other business development related field. An advanced degree is preferred.
- Ten plus (10+) years of experience in a business development environment with a proven track record working in private and/or public sector.
- Established relationships with key stakeholders across industries, at a local and national/global level.
- A keen understanding of Puerto Rico’s business environment, permitting and incentive process is a plus.
- Excellent relationship building, presentation and communications skills (written and spoken).
- Energetic, self-starter, results oriented and the ability to work effectively in teams and in an entrepreneurial/innovative environment.
- Passionate and self-motivated to assist with driving deals to a successful conclusion and to deliver quality results.
- Excellent analytical skills to understand market dynamics, determine appropriate strategies, and identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
- Experience working in an international / multicultural environment.
- Availability for frequent domestic and international travel.
- Knowledge / proficiency in CRM databases (Salesforce preferred) and lead generation digital tools like LinkedIn.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) - knowledge and fluency in other languages a plus.
- A strong desire to have a positive impact on Puerto Rico’s economic future.
